EXCHANGE DRIVING LICENSES FOR FOREIGNERS.
Switzerland approves foreign permits for private use for one year. After one year, or for professional purposes, your national permit must be exchanged for a Swiss one. To exchange your foreign permit, you need to fill in the official form from the State of Geneva. You must also go in person to the car office and present the following documents:
OFFICIAL LICENSE EXCHANGE FORM.
1-Original foreign driver’s license to be exchanged Test certificate to be exchanged
2-eyes from a licensed optician (no more than 24 months old)
3- a passport photo (in color)
4-Swiss ID: identity card or passport
Or else
4.1-Foreign identity card: foreign identity card or residence permit
Depending on the country where your license was issued, your foreign license will either be exchanged automatically or you will have to take a practical test.
EXCHANGE WITH EXAM PRACTICE.
If your license was issued in a country not listed below, you will need to take a practical test. You only get one shot! If you fail this practical test, you’ll have to go through the whole process again to obtain a Swiss permit. For this reason, we strongly advise you to be well prepared in order to pass your practical test. But of course, from our side, we’ll always support you in everything during this process.
EXCHANGE WITHOUT EXAMINATION.
If your licence was issued in one of the following 45 countries, it will be exchanged without an examination: Andorra / Australia / Austria / Belgium / Bulgaria / Canada / Cyprus / Croatia / Czech Republic / Denmark / Estonia / Finland / France / Germany / Greece / Hungary / Iceland / Ireland / Israel / Italy / Japan / Latvia / Liechtenstein / Lithuania / Luxembourg / Malta / Monaco / Morocco / Netherlands / New Zealand / Norway / Poland / Portugal / Romania / San Marino / Singapore / Slovakia / Slovenia / South Korea / Spain / Sweden / Tunisia / United Kingdom / United States.
