Course 3: Traffic dynamics

Vehicle condition
Refers to the technical and functional condition of the vehicle before and during driving. This includes :

    • Check essential components (tires, brakes, headlights, wipers, oil and fuel levels).
    • Regular maintenance to avoid breakdowns.
    • Adapting the vehicle to the conditions (e.g. winter tires for snow).
A vehicle in good condition is crucial for ensuring safety and reacting correctly to road situations.

The forces at play when driving
Refers to the physical forces acting on the moving vehicle, including :

      • Inertia: Tendency of the vehicle to maintain its speed or direction (e.g. difficulty in stopping quickly).
      • Centrifugal force: an effect felt when cornering, which can lead to a loss of grip.
      • Grip: Interaction between tires and road surface, affected by weather or road conditions.
Understanding these forces helps you adapt your speed and trajectories to maintain control of your vehicle.

      Moving in traffic
Ability to navigate safely and efficiently in traffic flow, taking into account :

        • Other road users (anticipate their actions, respect safety distances).
        • Lane changes, overtaking and merging into traffic.
        • Variable conditions (traffic jams, intersections, work zones).
This requires good anticipation, clear communication (indicators, lights) and compliance with the rules to ensure smooth, safe driving.
